
2011 - Celebrating Fifteen Years of Excellence in Racine, Wisconsin
The Racine County Workforce Development Board and its partners celebrated its 15 year Anniversary in November. Reggie Newson, Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary provided the keynote address to a crowd of 100 local elected officials and board members. The Racine County Workforce Development Board is the chief policy-making body for the Racine County Workforce Development Center (WDC), as mandated by the federal Workforce Investment Act. The board is guided by local private industry leaders, representing targeted industry clusters, who are high-level private sector executives, selected because of their industry expertise, business acumen, ability to influence others and to bring resources to the workforce development system.
The Racine County Workforce Development Board and its partners have implemented Higher Expectations: A Workforce Development Strategy for Racine County, since May 2008. 2009 - Higher Expectations: A Workforce Development Strategy, Second Year 
The Racine County Workforce Development Board and its Partners have implemented Higher Expectations: A Workforce Development Strategy for Racine County, since May, 2008. The six strategies of the plan respond to the challenges facing Racine County to compete in the global marketplace. 2008 - Higher Expectations: A Workforce Development Strategy for Racine County 
The Racine County Workforce Development Board (WDB), appointed by County Executive William McReynolds, chaired by Michael Batten, CEO/President of Twin Disc, Inc., agreed to be the catalyst to bring together businesses, educators and community stakeholders to address how well today’s workforce is prepared for the world of work. The six-month strategic planning process produced “Higher Expectations: A Workforce Strategy for Racine County.” The plan includes the challenges and strategies that represent a commitment to providing Racine County with a competitive advantage through workforce preparedness. One of the unique attributes of the Workforce Development Board, and the many partners with whom we collaborate, is our ability to work well with others and to pool resources in order to better serve the common needs of our community. At the most general level, Racine’s economic and workforce goals are the same: to create a prosperous, competitive and growing economy. Traditionally, economic development policies have focused on the needs of business for infrastructure, financing, fast permitting and favorable taxes, while workforce development policies focused on the needs of the unemployed and disadvantaged workers. Growing shortages of skilled workers have targeted the attention of both workforce and economic development managers on improving the skills of the workforce at large in order to prepare today’s job seekers for productive careers in the “new economy.” ... read more
