Wisconsin Works

W-2 services include; Food Share, Health Care, Child Support, Emergency Assistance and Refugee Assistance.  W-2 is based on work participation and personal responsibility.  Under W-2, there is help for everyone who is willing to work.  The program is available to all parents with minor children who have low assets and low income.  Each W-2 eligible participant meets with a Financial and Employment Planner (FEP), who helps the person develop a self-sufficiency plan and connects you to activities that will help you meet your employment goal.

BadgerCare and Medical Assistance

BadgerCare is a Wisconsin state program to provide health insurance for uninsured working families.  By insuring both children and their parents, BadgerCare makes it easier for parents to create a happy and healthy family life. To be eligible, you must:

• Have children under age 19 living with you
• Have income within the guideline limits
• Not be covered by health insurance

Medicaid is a joint federal/state program established in 1965 under Title XIX of the Social Security Act to pay for medical services for people with disabilities, people 65 years and older, children and their caretaker, and pregnant women who meet the program`s financial requirements.

Food Share Employment and Training

Individuals who receive Food Share may participate in a work program called Food Share Employment & Training (FSET).  Individuals are provided assistance in developing an employment plan, connecting to activities and services that will help achieve their employment goal.

Child Care

Wisconsin Shares is child care assistance available to eligible families for work-related, or work-and-school activities.  A co-payment is required, based on the family's income.

For a parent to be eligible for child care subsidy, the parent must participate in one of the following activities:

• Unsubsidized work
• Attend high-school if a teen parent under 20 years of age
• Participate in W-2 employment program
• Participate in employment skills training and continue being in unsubsidized employment
• Participate in Food Stamp Employment and Training work search or work experience programs
• Are a W-2 applicant participating in up-front job search, training or orientation activities.
