| RACINE COUNTY’S E3 PROGRAM RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Now, the whole country knows about the success of Racine County’s “E3” (Employ, Enrich, Engage) Program.

The Racine County Workforce development Center will have an employment and training program for the summer of 2010. Applications for the program willl be avaliable April 1, 2010. For additional information please call 262-638-6424. Summer youth employment opportunities include:

| Stimulus money to fund county green jobs program

The Racine County Workforce Development Center will use $450,000 in stimulus money to help train young people for green jobs.
The workforce development center is looking for businesses, organizations and individuals to provide green job opportunities as part of its summer youth employment and training program. (read more...)

Program provides summer jobs for more than 200 local youths

SOMERS — More than 200 area youths started their first day of work Monday.
The Racine County Workforce Development Center’s eight-week Youth Employment and Training program, which on Monday was renamed Employing Youth, Engaging Racine, Enriching Earth, or E3, kicked off at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 900 Wood Road.
“The program will prepare the youth to be the work force we need in this 21st century economy,” said Racine County Executive William McReynolds. (read more...) |

| Youths to conduct tours of green Downtown businesses

RACINE — As a result of one E3 group’s summer work, the youths will be leading green Downtown tours Thursday.
The purpose of the free tours is to raise awareness about Downtown businesses with green practices and/or products. Everyone who attends will receive a map and “Green Guide” to Downtown businesses. (read more...) |
| Training program stresses 'soft' skills

RACINE COUNTY — “Soft skills” and job experience were paramount for those who constructed the E3 job training program.
The first two weeks consisted of training the youths, with a hard focus on “soft” skills such as workplace etiquette and teamwork.
“Every entry-level employer tells us the most important thing is soft skills,” said Mark Gesner, Racine County Workforce Development Center youth team leader. (read more...) |

RACINE COUNTY — Not all federal stimulus money is building highways, bridges and the like.
Here, a good chunk of it is building job skills in young people.
Here, about 220 teens and young adults proudly wear their T-shirts bearing the words: Employ. Enrich. Engage. These are the E3 program members who this week will finish an eight-week work/training program largely funded by stimulus money. (read more...) |

| Good fish fry may begin in man’s garage nursery
MOUNT PLEASANT — Throw a line or a net into Lake Michigan and you’re not guaranteed to come up with a lake perch. Their numbers have been mostly down for years, but there is no shortage of this favorite Friday fish fry subject in Steve Wayo’s garage — or there won’t be once his young fish grow up in about a year.
“I’ve been looking into raising perch for years,” Wayo said. He took a class on it in the 1990s, but the system in use then relied on aquarium technology to keep the water clean, and it was too expensive and involved to maintain. Now he has found his answer, or what he hopes will be his answer.
