MySkillsMyFuture.org helps laid-off workers and other career changers find new occupations to explore. Users can identify occupations that require skills and knowledge similar to their current or previous job, learn more about these suggested matches, locate local training programs, and/or apply for jobs.

My Next Move

MyNextMove.org is an interactive tool for job seekers and students to learn more about their career options. The site has tasks, skills, salary information, and more for over 900 different careers.

Career exploration has taken on a new dimension for people in today’s changing global economy. It has never been more important for you to set goals and establish a career direction that will enable you to reach those goals.

The core of career planning is developing a strong self-knowledge. By knowing who you are (interests, values, and personality) and knowing what you have to offer (skills, knowledge, and experience) will enable you to identify a compatible occupation that best fits your individual needs.

The Career Development Center offers many services to assist you in your journey of discovery. Career Counselors will help you to:

Interpret test and assessment results to identify skills, interests, etc.
Identify information resources to research various professions and employers
Explain and demonstrate job search methods
Review resumes and offer ideas to strengthen the presentation
Assist with interview preparation
Explore education and training options to enhance employability
Overcome a specific job barrier
Address transition issues with coping techniques and/or referrals to other professionals
Provide objective feedback and assistance on a wide range of career matters

Planning

Career planning is a lifelong process of using information about yourself to make good career choices. We can equip you with the tools, strategies and resources to create your own career action plan.

The Career Development Center provides customers with a variety of information for current and future career choices including skills assessments, personal inventory evaluations, aptitude testing, employability skills training and career development counseling. The primary purpose of the Career Development Center is to enhance and develop customers’ employability skills, assist individuals in obtaining meaningful employment and/or training opportunities, and develop a career plan for their future career aspirations.

On-site Child Care

The on-site child care facility is open Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and serves children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. Children between the ages of 6 years and 12 years old may only use the facility during non-school hours. Non-school hours include days when school is not in session as well as before and after school. The entire Workforce Development Center is closed for all major holidays. Customers who are using the child care facility must remain in the building at all times and children may only be in the child care facility for a maximum of three and a half hours per visit.

The child care facility is staffed by four certified teachers who plan daily age-appropriate activities. Call 262-638-6642 for more information.

Assessments

Job seekers can select from two separate assessment or testing tools to assist with their career search:

Career Assessment Workshop – Job seekers can evaluate their abilities and interests with the CAPS aptitude test and Harrington O’Shea career inventory. Test results are provided and occupational options discussed. The test is offered the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. Call 638-6429 or 638-6404 to register.
Self-Directed Search (SDS) – Whether you are looking for a college major, beginning a job search, or thinking about a career change, the SDS will provide valuable career information. The SDS was developed by Dr. John Holland, whose theory of careers is the basis for most of the career inventories used today.

National Career Readiness Certificate

PROVE you are ready! Earn a National Career Readiness Certificate*, Wisconsin's work-readiness certificate.

The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is a portable credential that helps build a job seeker’s confidence and verifies that his or her skills match an employer’s needs.

The backbone of this NCRC initiative is ACT, Inc.’s WorkKeys job skill assessment system which includes the three core assessments of Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information and Locating Information -- skills that are highly important to the majority of jobs in the workplace.

This, combined with an innovative job profiling process that accurately identifies the exact skills required for specific jobs is helping to create the perfect match between Wisconsin workers and jobs. Read more on the Job Center of Wisconsin NCRC Job Seeker website.
