The youth team engages in a rotation of "green" work assignments on the
UW-Parkside campus. The rotation includes nature trail maintenance, prairie restoration, rain garden enhancements, disc course refurbishing, and geo-cache site development. The work is designed in consultation with the campus physical plant department and is contextualized by exposure to concepts taught in the University's Geosciences and Gography departments.
Through these efforts, youth are being exposed to the UW-Parkside campus and educated about "green" careers in geosciences and geography. The youth provide support to the goals of Parkside's Facilities Management, and are employing University Relations and Community Based Learning principles. They're developing skills in the area of property maintenance, land management, scientific analytic development, teamwork, and communication.
